Hunting for clues

There are numerous testimonies from past and present that document that Europe's cultural heritage can not be separated by borders of different states, peoples or languages. Since the settlement of our continent there has always been an exchange in culture, trade, art and values across all borders. Thus, in the different countries of Europe, there are cultural goods everywhere that have a common origin and have been adopted or changed in many ways or adapted to the respective zeitgeist.

Examples of similarities and cohesion of European states that were discovered in the context of Erasmus +, as well as Comenius, but also school trips.

Daugavpils: Handwerkskunst/Majolika-Ceramics

On October 12, 1810, on the occasion of the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese, a horse race took place on a meadow outside the city walls. The participants and guests were provided with wine and beer. The offer grew from year to year. Climbing trees, bowling alleys and swings were added. In 1818 the first carousel was set up. Several stalls where you could win porcelain, jewelery and other valuable household goods attracted more and more visitors. Horse racing fell behind and disappeared in the early 20th century. In 1898 the first huge beer booth with up to 6000 seats was built. 120 employees and a 30-strong brass band took care of the well-being of the guests. The number of marquees and entertainment stores was constantly increasing. Today, people from all parts of the world meet every year for the "Oktoberfest on the Theresienwiese".

The origin of the name is not clear. The name probably comes from the house name of the facade painter Franz Seraph Zwinck. House names have existed since the Middle Ages. You are liable for the house and the property, even if the former owner has moved. The example of the towns of Mittenwald and Oberammergau shows how important the trade route from Italy to the north was and how prosperous the towns were. Wealthy citizens wanted to show their wealth to the outside world and therefore commissioned fresco painters to decorate the facades of their houses with elaborate paintings based on the Italian model from the Baroque period. This resulted in numerous frescoes with religious, rural, everyday motifs and banners.

Oberammergau: Tradition/Immaterielles Kulturerbe/Passionsfestspiele

In the years 1600 to 1700, the plague broke out again and again in Europe and people saw religious rites as the only way to avert or avoid the disaster. This is also the case in Oberammergau. In 1633, its citizens swore to publicly perform the suffering and death of Christ every 10 years, provided that no one died of the plague. The village was spared and the first Passion Play was performed in 1634. The 42nd Passion Play will not take place until 2022 two years later due to the corona epidemic. So far, the people of Oberammergau have been able to welcome guests from all over the world. These include Empress Sissi of Austria, King Edward VII and many monarchs of yesteryear as well as celebrities from the clergy and trade.

Originally a farmer and herb marketplace in the heart of Munich. It has taken place every day since 1807, except for Sundays and public holidays. The appearance of the site, which is more than two hectares in size, is characterized by permanently erected stalls, some of which have large displays. In 1807, the city market for grain and agricultural products had to be relocated from Marienplatz between the Heilig-Geist-Kirche and Frauenstraße because the space became too small. In the meantime it has grown to 22,000 square meters with 107 dealers. Today it is not only a shopping mile, but also an important sight in the city and a meeting place for numerous tourists from all countries. This is also ensured by other sights such as the Munich maypole, many statues of important Munich residents, fountains and a beer garden.
